This week’s playlist — Eight Miles High — goes on a trip through the ’60s psychedelic rock. Opening with a jam from Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper entitled ‘His Holy Modal Majesty,’ it also features tunes from The Byrds, Big Brother & The Holding Company, and Small Faces, among others.
Grace Slick & the Great Society also features with ‘Sally, Go Round the Roses.’ Since the days of The Great Society and Jefferson Airplane, Grace Slick has taken up painting, with works including a ‘420 Collection’ to promote cannabis legalization. The singer also suitably has a strain named after her.
From the ’80s is a live recording of the Grateful Dead’s ‘Althea’ off of the 1990 release Without a Net — though the track was first recorded for studio album Go to Heaven. Rounding out the playlist are essential tunes from seminal artists that need no introduction, including Jimi Hendrix and Cream.
