Psychedelic Soul offers everything from trippy sounds to R&B and Funk. Of course, the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin makes an indispensable appearance, as do the sensual vocal talents of Minnie Riperton. Also essential is the groovy growl of Betty Davis in ‘Anti Love Song.’

Infectious gems on this week’s playlist are Darondo’s ‘The Wolf’ off of the excellent Listen to My Song: The Music City Sessions, as well as Tim Maia’s ‘Que Beleza.’ Maia’s musical output was wide-reaching and colorful, an icon in Brazil’s music scene throughout the ’60s and ’70s.

Another classic in this week’s playlist is Sly & The Family Stone’s ‘If You Want Me to Stay’ off of the seminal Fresh. A perfect tune to do as Sly did and “smoke a little weed and maybe have a cocktail.”

Happy toking!
