Opening this week’s playlist is a minimal, delicate drone piece from Sarah Davachi. ‘For Voice’ is a stunning meditation of familiar timbres made up of layered voices. Closing the playlist is Marielle V Jakobsons’ ‘Rising Light’ — a more texturally varied piece that references psychedelic sounds of the ‘60s.
In between the two, Dedekind Cut’s ’46:50’ makes an appearance with haunting piano melodies and processed vocals. Melancholic ‘Corsair’ from Boards of Canada’s Geogaddi also appears, alongside Claire M Singer’s organ piece ‘Solas’ and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s ‘ff’ from 2017’s async.
The mood of this week’s playlist is well-suited to some of the psychoactive effects of smoking — though sadly there has yet to be much research done on the relationship between getting high and auditory perception. Nonetheless, we at Word on the Tree think there is much to be appreciated in stoned listening.
