This week, we at Word on the Tree bring you a playlist of nostalgic, funky sounds from the Middle East. “Middle Eastern Groove” offers a blend of pop and folk music, from Lebanon in the ’90s to Turkey in the ’70s.

The playlist opens with the easy, infectious groove of Ahmed Fakroun in Nissan, features ornate melodies from pop singer Googoosh in Man Amadeh-Am, and catchy bass riffs in Shahram Shabpareh’s Shahreh Eshgh.

Another gem in this week’s playlist is Grazia’s Istemem — a psychedelic tune from her fantastic eponymous album. Smoke up and enjoy the sounds of a vintage Moog atop a wonderful mélange of Turkish folk music, psych rock, disco, and funk.

Happy toking!
